Hand is in Supination
for the first four basic On-Guard positions.

Fingernails are upward and the thump position is at 1 or 2 o'clock for right handed and at 10 or 11 o'clock for left handed fencers.

Some fencers repeatedly practice parry 4 from the 6, 8 or7 position with a roll from, Supination 6, 8, or 7, with to a slight Pronation in 4.  Which is not a 4, but a parry 5, at the instant of engagement. This video addresses an injury that may occur when performing this parries, especially if it's performed as a reflexive unforeseen action.
